Granny triangles bunting

DSC00670.JPGMy daughter L asked me to make a crochet bunting for her friend who is turning 8 on Friday so I decided to make a granny triangle bunting. I used Stylecraft Special DK which is 100% acrylic and a 4 mm crochet hook. I’m writing the pattern is UK terms.

Ch= Chain (IT catenella)

Tr= Treble (US DC) (IT maglia alta)

Sl-st= Slip Stitch (IT maglia bassissima)

To start make a magic ring.

Round 1 (work inside the magic ring)

ch 3 (counts as 1tr)DSC00650

2 tr into the ring, chain 1DSC00651

3 tr, ch 1 into ring twice

Pull the tail to close the ring.

Now sl- st into 3rd ch of initial ch3

You should have 3 sets of treble clusters with 1 chain in between. Fasten off.

Round 2 (work in chain space made in previous round) Add a second colour by pulling the new yarn through any ch1 space from previous round

Ch 6 ( counts as 1 tr + 3 ch – corner space) DSC00657.JPG

3 tr, ch 1 DSC00658.JPG

Now we’re going to go in the next chain space and work 3 tr, 3 chain, 3 treble (2nd corner space). Ch 1, 3tr, 3 chain, 3 tr in the next chain space from previous round (3rd  corner space). Ch1. DSC00660.JPG

We’re now back to the beginning of round 2.  2 tr and join with sl-st to 3rd ch of initial ch6. In this way we complete the 1st corner cluster. DSC00661.JPG

Close the round by sl-st in chain space. It starts to look like a triangle! Round 2 completed! Fasten off.DSC00662.JPG

Round 3 (work in chain spaces form previous round). Join new colour.

Ch 6 (counts as 1tr + 3 ch – corner space), 3 tr, ch 1 , this is our a part of the 1st corner cluster.

3 tr in next chain space (side cluster) ch 1

3 tr, 3 ch, 3 tr, ch 1 in next chain space (2nd corner cluster)

DSC00663.JPG

In next ch space (side cluster) work 3 tr, ch 1

3 tr, 3 ch, 3 tr, ch 1 in next corner  (3rd corner cluster)

3 tr, ch 1 (side cluster)

We’re back in 1st corner cluster, 2 tr, join with sl-st to 3rd chain of initial ch6. Sl-st into 3 ch space. Round 3 is completed! Fasten off.

Round 4 (work in chain spaces form previous round). Join new colour.

3 tr, ch 1 n next 2 chain space (side clusters)

3 tr, 3 ch, 3 tr, ch 1 in next chain space (3nd corner cluster)

3 tr, ch 1 n next 2 chain space (side clusters)

We’re back in 1st corner cluster, 2 tr, join with sl-st to 3rd chain of initial ch6. Sl-st into 3 ch space. Round 4 is completed! Fasten off.

Round 5 (working in each tr of previous round and chain spaces). Join new colour

DSC00666.JPG

Ch 3 (counts as tr) 2 tr into corner ch sp.

1 tr in each 3 tr from previous round, 1 tr into side ch sp, twice.

1 tr in each 3 tr from previous round

3 tr into next corner ch space.

Repeat for next 2 sides: work 1 tr in each tr from previous round, 1 tr in 1ch space (side) and 3 tr in 3ch sp (corners). Join with sl-st to 3rd ch of initial ch3.

Turn over your triangle and weave ends. It’s probably easier if you weave your ends after each round.

To assemble the bunting I worked 8 ch and sl-st to 1st ch to form a loop. Ch 4 and sl-st into each tr along the top of my triangles, working 4 ch in between triangles.

Happy crocheting!
